Muriel Bowser Enters Mayoral Fray

Saturday, Bowser, the Ward 4 Councilwoman, officially started her campaign to become Mayor of D.C.

Muriel Bowser, coming off of her third election to serve as the Councilwoman for Ward 4, announced Saturday that she is running for mayor. The mayoral primary is next spring and the election is November 2014.

Sitting Mayor Vincent Gray has not yet indicated whether he plans to run for reelection.

Bowser started off what will be a year-long campaign at a rally attended by about 100 people Saturday, according to The Washington Post.

Corruption has robbed is of our focus, our momentum, our need to think big and act swiftly,” she said, according to the Post. “We’ve settled into the status quo.”

Bowser first came to the District Council in 2007, winning a special election to take over then-mayor Adrian Fenty's former post.

Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells formed a mayoral exploratory committee earlier this year.

Ward 2's own Councilman Jack Evans may also join the fray, though he will not start off with an exploratory committee.

"You either want to run for mayor or you don’t want to run for mayor," said Evans when Wells announced.

Who do you think will be the next Mayor of Washington, D.C.?
