New DC Taxis: Red, Gray and Rode All Over

The DC Taxicab Commission is considering a uniform color for taxis.

The DC Taxicab Commission (DCTC) this week put forward the idea of having red and gray be the uniform colors for all of the District's taxi fleet. The design calls for a gray stripe on the side of a red vehicle, much like the DC Circulator buses.

The decision comes after much debate and generally negative feedback on other proposed color schemes, which were revealed last year.

  • Red and white (with a yellow stripe)
  • Green and yellow
  • White and yellow (with green stripe)
  • Red and black with white accent

A Public Hearing about the uniform taxi color design is scheduled for May 29 at 10 a.m. at 441 4th Street, NW in the Old Council Chambers on the First Floor. Anyone who wants to testify must register by calling 202.645.6018 extension 4.

Once the colors are finalized, the new color design will be phased in as taxis are replaced due to age and mileage limits, according to a DCTC press release.
