New Parking Restrictions for 29th Street During Bridge Rehabilitation

The District Department of Transportation will eliminate several parking spaces on 29th Street south of M Street.

Parking on 29th Street will be further restricted for the remainder of the 29th Street Bridge Rehabilitation project. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will remove all parking meters along the east side of 29th Street between M Street and the C&O Canal. The three northern most parking spaces on the West side of 29th will remain, but all others will be marked with "no parking" signs.

DDOT studied traffic patterns in response to a request from surrounding businesses. According to a letter sent to area businesses and residents, the agency noticed "mounting congestion as well as bottlenecked traffic conditions because of oversized vehicles and restricted lanes."

The parking restrictions will remain in place for the length of the project, which is slated to finish in the winter of 2012.
