Renovated Palisades Playground Officially Open

The renovated facility officially opened July 4.

Mayor Vincent Gray joined members of the Palisades community and other District leaders in cutting the ribbon to open the newly renovated Palisades playground Thursday after the annual Fourth of July parade.

The playground at 5200 Sherrier Place NW is the first "Play DC" playground to be completed in Ward 3. Play DC is the largest playground renovation project in the District’s history, according to a press release from the mayor's office.

“Palisades Playground is not only the District’s first ‘imagination playground,’ but it is representative of the rich Native American history that exists in the Palisadescommunity,” said Mayor Gray in a statement. "The renovations and upgrades here at Palisades Playground are an investment in our children, our families, our community and our great city.”

The playground features movable play equipment, like building blocks, a new spray feature, outdoor exercise equipment, the city's first skate spot, according to the press release.

There is also an expanded community garden area, which was added through a Sustainable DC grant from the Office of Planning and the District Department of the Environment.
