Special Election for At-large Seat April 23

The election will fill the seat vacated by DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson

The special election to fill the At-large seat on the District Council, vacated by Phil Mendelson when he became the council chairman, will be April 23. Mendelson was elected in November to permanently fill the chairmanship which Kwame Brown vacated in June.

The Board of Elections set the election date on Nov. 29. On Dec. 10 officials will appoint an interim councilmember to serve between now and the election in April.

According to The Washington Post, candidates can pick up nominating petitions beginning Dec. 6 and will need valid signatures from 3,000 District voters by Jan. 23 to appear on the ballot.
