Trash and Ticketing Changes for Memorial Day

The Department of Public Works will not pick up trash Monday and will not enforce most parking rules.

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will have adjusted services in observance of Memorial Day, Monday.

Trash

There will be no trash and recycling collections on Memorial Day. Trash and recycling collections will "slide" to the next day for the remainder of the week. Monday's trash and recycling collections will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday's collections will be made on Wednesday.

Collections normally made on Tuesday and Friday, will be made Wednesday and Saturday. Place your trash and recycling containers out no earlier than 6:30 the night before and remove them by 8 p.m. on the day of collection.

Parking enforcement, including ticket writing for residential parking, expired meters, street sweeping and rush-hour violations will be suspended on Monday.  DPW also will suspend towing abandoned vehicles.  Enforcement will resume Tuesday, May 31.

That said if you decide to head to the ball game, watch out for tickets. Since the Nationals play at home this weekend and Memorial Day, DPW will enforce parking restrictions in the area around Nats Stadium.
