Trash Collection Begins at 6 a.m. Through June 28

Earlier trash collection times allow workers to avoid peak heat.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) began collecting trash at 6 a.m. today and will continue early collections through Friday.

The changes impact Georgetown residents, who have trash collection Friday, and Glover Park and Burleith residents, who have trash collection Thursday.

The earlier collection times are part of a policy to protect the health and safety of workers on days when "the temperature and heat index are predicted to be 90 degree or higher or the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments announces unhealthy air quality (Code Orange or Code Red days)," according to avDPW press release.

The air quality forecast for Wednesday is Code Orange.
