Vernon Hills Village Board Paves Way for Chick-fil-A

Changes to building design met with approval.

After presenting a preliminary plan in June to open a new location on Milwaukee Avenue, Chick-fil-A went before the Vernon Hills Village Board again on Oct. 2, receiving support for a new parking and building layout.

“Tonight was the recommendation to draft the ordinance to approve,” said Assistant Village Manager John Kalmar.

. The main entrance was placed next the to the drive-thru lanes, forcing pedestrians to walk through the lanes of traffic to enter the building. The new plans solved this problem, along with other minor issues.

“First of all, my compliments on the new design,” said Trustee Thom Koch. “I appreciate the fact that you listened to what we said, and it looks like it turned out to be a better reconfiguration for you in terms of parking and seating.”

The building will be located in the spot currently occupied by Pier One Imports, which will be demolished. The new building will house 126 seats, an interior play area and 20 outdoor seats, as well as a parking lot and drive-thru lanes.

Jason Hill, a representative from Chick-fil-A’s design and construction department, presented the new plans to the board also announcing that the prototype in the plans is currently going through LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. It will include reflective roofing, energy efficient lighting, and floor and wall tile made out of recycled materials.

Village President Roger Byrne welcomed Hill and his team to Vernon Hills. The village will now draft the ordinance to approve Chick-fil-A’s plans on the consent agenda Oct.16.

It's one thing to say you support "traditional marriage." After all, who DOESN'T? I have lots of Straight (i.e. heterosexual) friends, some married and some single, and if any of the singles finds a compatible person of the opposite sex to marry and make a solemn commitment to, no one will be happier than me. But it is quite another thing to donate millions of dollars per year in company profits to organizations who work specifically to deny law-abiding, taxpaying Gay couples the same legal benefits and protections that Straight couples have always taken for granted. I know a lot of people love the food at Chick-fil-A, but they also support their Gay friends, family members and co-workers, so much so that they have chosen to no longer eat there. People have every right to throw their money at Chick-fil-A if they want, but they shouldn't also pretend that they support their Gay friends.

Just because you state your right. Doesn't mean others have to agree with you. You have made your point, you don't agree with just marriage, you agree with oth means of " marriage". Got it. Some would not agree with that lifestyle. I am one who doesn't. It's not that I hate them, I don't. I don't agree. I am mature enough to disagree without hatred. If people choose not to eat there because of a disagreement, that's fine. god will still bless the Cathy family by other means. God is not limited. Just because you eat somewhere doesn't mean you " support" another mean. I eat a Chick fil a . I like their food. I like their mortailty. They didn't show hatred with hatred. They just disagreed. The other party wants to prompt hatred, then go ahead. It shows your character, which reveals your heart. I support love. And chick fil a DIDN'T post anti gay signs, or do hateful acts. So yes I support them. And with this marriage donation. This man is a Christian! What did you expect? Just because you will settle for earthly things, doesn't mean Christians will. Again, just because he DISAGREES how the world feels, they should attack him. And this is ok.....how? I admire the man, sticking up for his faith and belief! And yes Marriage is defined between One man and One woman! Just because we disagree on that doesn't mean I hate you. I am way too mature for that!
