What is Open, Closed in D.C. During Hurricane Sandy

As the D.C. region braces for the impact of Hurricane Sandy, Georgetown residents can expect to have limited access to government services Monday as all District and Federal agencies in the region are closed.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

• Federal Offices in the Washington, D.C. area are closed Monday, according to the Office of Personnel Management website.
• The Obama administration signed an emergency declaration for the District of Columbia. D.C. has access to resources from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other federal resources for the duration of the storm and its aftermath.

DISTRICT GOVERNMENT

• The District government is closed Monday.
• DCPS is closed Monday and central office staff are not expected to report to work. According to a DCPS press release, "Essential staff are not expected to report until after the storm has passed consistent with direction they will receive from their supervisors once the storm moves forward tomorrow."
• The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) recreation centers, aquatic facilities, parks, fields and playgrounds will be closed Monday.
• Five DPR Centers will operate as Shelter Recovery Sites starting at 10 a.m. Monday.

TRANSPORTATION

• The DC Circulator will not operate Monday.
• Capital Bikeshare will stop operating at 1 a.m. Monday and will remain closed until weather conditions improve.
• Amtrak Northeast corridor services are canceled on Monday. All Acela Express, Northeast Regional, Keystone and Shuttle services are canceled for trains originating on that date. Also Empire Service, Adirondack, Vermonter, Ethan Allen and Pennsylvanian train services suspended, along with some overnight services.
