Government Agency Closures:
D.C. Public Schools and offices are closed.
The D.C. Public Libraries are closed.
All Department of Motor Vehicles locations are closed.
The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs is closed.
Metrorail: According to the WMATA website, "The rail system will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Saturday schedule, with scheduled trackwork on the Red and Orange lines. Parking at Metro-owned lots and garages is free on the holiday. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day."
Metrobus: According to the WMATA website, "Buses will operate on a Saturday schedule; some post-midnight trips on the Saturday schedule will not operate."
Recreation Centers: According to a news release, "DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that on Monday, October 8, 2012 all Recreation Centers will be closed in observance of the Columbus Day holiday. All Aquatic Centers, with the exception of Takoma, will be closed. Takoma will operate on a modified holiday schedule. All scheduled permitted events and activities on DPR fields will be made available for the permitted time period only."
Trash Collection: There will be no trash and recycling collections. Trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week. For example, Monday’s trash and recycling collections will be made Tuesday, and Tuesday’s collections will be made Wednesday. In neighborhoods with twice-weekly trash collections, Monday and Thursday collections will be made Tuesday and Friday. Collections normally made Tuesday and Friday, will be made Wednesday and Saturday. Trash and recycling containers should be placed out for collection no earlier than 6:30 pm the night before collection and removed from public space by 8 p.m. on the day(s) of collection.
Parking Enforcement: Parking enforcement, including ticket writing for residential parking, expired meters, street sweeping and rush-hour violations, will be suspended. DPW also will suspend towing abandoned vehicles. Enforcement will resume Tuesday.
If there is a Nationals home game Monday, parking regulations around the stadium will be enforced.
