In a true hurricane mystery, the massive tree that fell in Woodley Park during Hurricane Sandy on Monday night has been transformed into a small tree stump table and chairs.

In a true hurricane mystery, the massive tree that fell in Woodley Park during Hurricane Sandy on Monday night has been transformed into a small tree stump table and chairs.

The huge tree fell quickly and loudly around 5 p.m. Monday evening. To the relief of neighbors in the surrounding homes on Cathedral Avenue NW, the tree hit neither home nor person. One car on the opposite side of Cathedral Ave. was the only victim -- a sad end for that car, but quite the dodging of a bullet for the rest of us.

The next day, a team sent by the city made quick work of chopping up the tree and removing debris. The tree had been blocking both lanes of Cathedral.

To my surprise, when I returned home from work yesterday, I found a delightful table and chairs on my porch, made of stumps leftover from the tree. Adorning the table was a teakettle and four teacups. It's a mystery who crafted the furniture and who added the tea service.
