Healthy Cooking Workshop: Nutrition for Aging Adults

Cooking demonstrations with a focus on whole grains and
vegetables used in a variety of simple delicious side dishes.
Juliette Tahar of Glover Park, natural food chef and cooking instructor, will lead the cooking demonstrations. All menus are gluten-free. Recipes provided.

Nutritional Instruction on the needs of aging adults and those who
want to eat healthily. Martha Rebour of Glover Park, a certified holistic nutritionist, will co-teach the class and address the nutritional needs as we age. Instructors participate with the Glover Park Village.

Wednesday, August 22nd: Menu:
Creamed Vegetable Soup, Hearty Millet Salad w/ Herb Dressing, Soft Millet Cauliflower, Fried Millet Croquettes, Easy Swiss Chard Stir-fry.

Goal: Learn the basic of making a vegan creamed soup; learn the many nutritional benefits of “millet”, a versatile whole grain that can be made in many dishes, from breakfast porridge to pan-fried croquettes; learn different techniques to cut and cook vegetables.

Wednesday, September 12: Menu: Ginger Quinoa Butternut Squash Soup, Quinoa Fall Pilaf, Braised Yams; Easy gluten free Apple Pear Crisp.

Goal: Learn how to satisfy craving for sweets through naturally sweet whole foods; learn about “Quinoa”, another “power” whole grain that also can be made in versatile dishes; learn to make an easy fruit crisp.
