Lecture: Dealing With a Family Collection

Archaeology in the Community presents the next talk in its on-going lecture series:

"Dealing with a Family Collection: What to Keep, What to Trash, What to Give Away" by Joanna Church, Director of Collections, Montgomery County Historical Society

Many of us end up, whether deliberately or by default, as the Keeper of the family's collections. Even one shoebox of unsorted snapshots can become a burden of responsibility or, sometimes, guilt. How do you preserve them?  How do you identify them? "Dealing with a Family Collection" will give some strategies for getting started, sorting and organizing a collection, and sharing results with family, as well as resources for basic preservation, storage and - when necessary - disposal. Investigating a family collection can be a rewarding process, and it is worth the time and effort!
