Following Student Outcry, Georgetown University Will Not House Students in Clarendon

Georgetown University has been exploring a number of options to increase its student housing.

Georgetown University has decided to repurpose existing buildings on campus to meet the demand for more student housing rather than establish a satellite residence in Clarendon, according to the Hoya, the campus newspaper.

The school has been looking at a number of different ways to house an additional 385 students by 2015.

Last month, the Georgetown student body opposed any sort of satellite housing to meet that need by 93 percent in a campus referendum, the Hoya reported.

The university's vice president for student affairs told the campus paper that was a "very significant factor" in the decision.
