Georgetown University Signs Mason Kicker

When Henry Darmstadter arrived at George Mason High School five years ago, he had never played organized football. Tuesday, Georgetown University signed the second team All Bull Run District player to continue his football career in the Patriot League.

Darmstadter, who will compete for a kicking job for the Hoyas, joins Stephen Lubnow as the second player in as many years from Mason to go onto to play at a NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) school.

“They said when I come in I have a chance to compete,” the 5 feet 7 inch tall, 165 pound Darmstadter said.

Darmstadter said he also considered Tulane University, Trinity College in Connecticut and Harvard University.

Joined by his parents Andrew and Maryan, and Head Coach Tony Green, Darmstadter signed his letter of intent in a small conference inside the school. With joy shining from their faces, Darmstadter’s parents posed with their son for a picture before he had to return to class.

“It’s terrific for him,” Andrew said of his son. “It’s a testament to his work ethic. He’s going to work very hard to contribute.”

Knowing his hard work has paid off for him, Darmstadter said he is looking forward to getting on campus in the summer and continuing to work. Having a chance to compete against two other kickers, one already on the team and another signee coming in with him, Darmstadter said that has fueled his fire more.

“It was a collection of people that got me here,” Darmstadter said. “I couldn’t have done it without my parents, coaches, teammates and friends.”
