Homeless DC Student Awarded Full Scholarship to Georgetown University

She plans to major in Biology to become a forensic pathologist.

The former DC General Hospital-turned homeless shelter has been in the news quite a bit recently, mainly for being the home of kidnapped 8-year-old Relisha Rudd.

But another resident of the homeless shelter, a high school student named Rashema Shelton, is making news for a different reason: she's earned a full-ride scholarship to Georgetown University, according to several news outlets, including this report in The Huffington Post.

The Anocostia High senior, who lives at the shelter with her mom and two siblings, has a 4.0 and plans to major in Biology. Her dream is to become a forensic pathologist, inspired by the murder of her dad, The Huffington Post reported.
