Hyde-Addison Students Walk for the Homeless, Celebrate Fall Fest

Students at Hyde-Addison Elementary walked on behalf of the Georgetown Ministry Center for the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless program.

Students in pre-K through fifth grade at read stories about homeless individuals and families and discussed homelessness in the area before marching through the neighborhood Friday in the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless walk to benefit the (GMC). Students wore costumes to celebrate their Fall Fest after their walk.

Volunteers arrived to the Georgetown neighborhood school early Friday morning to read books to students. The Georgetown Ministry Center provided picture books and discussion questions for volunteers to speak with children about the homeless in Georgetown and throughout the region.

While students pondered why people become homeless and how they could help, parents and teachers helped decorate the school yard with cobwebs and pumpkins. Children paraded on the streets around the school; many carried signs that read "Help the Homeless."
