Jumping into Learning Feet First at Hardy Middle School

Enjoy a photo gallery of students in Ms. Whitty's class. They spent Friday exploring their new wetlands, muddy feet and all.

Students experienced "hands on" learning in their outdoor classroom Friday, exploring their feet first.

Students in 6th and 7th grade received a lesson about their local environment and watershed from District Department of the Environment's (DDOE) Trinh Doan. Then Ms. Britni Whitty's 5th period class got a chance to get muddy and plant some wetland grasses during their class Friday.

Through the DDOE, Hardy received a grant to build a new wetlands area, butterfly garden and vegetable garden in a marshy patch of grass next to the tennis courts.

DDOE and Hardy staff members and volunteers have spent the past few weeks creating the wetlands area. The butterfly garden will be planted in the spring and the vegetable garden will be part of next fall’s lessons.
