"As a life-long Hoya, I'm incredibly excited about this project. Students deserve a place on campus where they can socialize and hang out," said Brogan in an email to Patch.

"The Pub will encourage students to spend more time on-campus, which is great for everyone. I've had the privilege of owning and operating bars in other parts of the city but I am truly excited to help start this new tradition on campus."

The Healey Family Student Center is part of the university's effort to create a social center on campus to both enhance the campus experience and follow through on promises to reduce impacts of student life on the surrounding community.

“The pub will be an inviting new social center for students and will be one of the key elements that will make our new student center so lively and engaging. I am excited about working with Fritz, our students, and colleagues across campus as we bring the Healey Family Student Center to life,” Todd Olson, vice president for student affairs, said in an article on the GU website.

As a student, Brogan worked as a bartender at the Third Edition, which recently closed on Wisconsin Avenue.

And, he was involved in some of the initial planning for a new student center on campus.

"I am truly going full circle on this project," he wrote.

Students will be employed as bartenders and in other staff positions at the new pub. There will also be opportunities for students to vote on various aspects of the bar's programming, menu and other offerings.

"Everything about the Pub —including its name — is still a blank slate," he explained.

During the summer, Brogan and the University will work with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission to apply to the city for a liquor license for a full bar, with draft beer, wine, and cocktails.

Though the pub and student center will not open until the fall, GU is expanding other late-night offerings. Campus restaurant Epicurean, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from May 1-19 and will stay open until 2 a.m. thereafter during the summer.

"We look forward to working with Fritz and the administration to build a pub that will be an important part of student life for generations to come,” Nate Tisa, president of the Georgetown University Student Association, said in an article on the GU website.
