National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists Include 56 D.C. Students

Local high school seniors who excelled in testing last year will be competing as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

All 16,000 semifinalists are eligible to compete for 8,000 National Merit Scholarship awards worth $35 million. The money will be awarded in spring 2014 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Students are selected nationwide based on their PSAT scores junior year. The number of semifinalists in a state or region is proportional to the local percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
