New Principal, Donald Bryant, Named for Stoddert Elementary

Glover Park school will have a new permanent principal starting mid-July.

The year-long saga of finding a new permanent principal to replace Dr. Marjorie Cuthbert as the head of Stoddert Elementary School in Glover Park came to an end Friday with the appointment of Donald Bryant.

Cuthbert announced her departure at the end of the the 2011-2012 school year. Though a panel formed last summer to select her replacement, Chancellor Kaya Henderson halted the panel process and appointed an interim principal, Patricia Pride, to lead the school for the 2012-2013 year.

A new panel formed this spring to review several possible candidates for the permanent position at Stoddert.

Pride was not selected by the panel to stay on in her current role and after a second round of interviews, the panel selected Bryant as their preferred candidate.

Friday Henderson agreed to appoint Bryant as the new principal upon the recommendation of the principal selection panel made up of parents and teachers.

According to a letter the chancellor sent to parents, Bryant comes to DC Public Schools from Lee County, Fla. where he has been the Principal of Fort Myers Middle Academy, a magnet school, since 2010.

He moved to Florida in 1999 to lead Tropical Isles Elementary, which was named a Florida Title I school of distinction 2009. His first school leadership position was in 1993 as the principal of an elementary school in Wisconsin.
