St. Albans Selects New Headmaster and Athletic Director from Within

The Bulldogs also added new staff, including football coach Cornelius Greene

Football coach Gary Schnell has been named as the new athletic director at St. Albans replacing Dave Baad who has been promoted to assistant Headmaster at the private school.  

Baad, a 1983 alumnus of St. Albans, has been at the school since 1988 serving in several coaching capacities.

Until his appointment as Assistant Headmaster effective July 1, he was director of athletics and auxiliary programs at the school. He was highly successful as a baseball coach at both the varsity and junior varsity levels with several of his players going onto to play professional baseball.

That list of former Bulldog players includes star pitcher Danny Hultzen who signed an $8.5-million contract with the Seattle Mariners earlier this week, .  

Schnell has served as football coach for he Bulldogs since 2008.  Before that he was athletic director at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes in Alexandria for 17 years. He has a BA from Towson University outside Baltimore.

Schnell will remain as head football coach. But the Bulldogs have added former Ohio State star Cornelius Greene to their varsity football coaching ranks as well.  

Greene, who played high school football at Dunbar in DC, was starting quarterback for coach Woody Hayes at Ohio State from 1973 through 1975. 

Greene joined the Bulldogs coaching staff earlier this month and is working at the pre-season practices with the team.
