Stoddert Parents Consider Retaining Interim Principal

Patricia Pride was appointed as the interim principal for the 2012-2013 by Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson.

Stoddert Elementary School parents are considering whether they would like to permanently appoint interim Principal Patricia Pride or to proceed with a formal principal selection process.

Last summer DC Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson appointed an interim principal for Stoddert Elementary, despite an active principal selection process at the Glover Park school.

"Although DCPS will not reach out to parents until this Spring, the LSAT* is seeking parent input now on retaining Principal Pride permanently or moving forward on forming a panel," according to a newsletter sent Friday.

Four parents elected by the Stoddert community represent parent interest in issues like the DCPS budget and other administrative matters through the Local School Advisory Team (LSAT).

Depending on the outcome, this spring DCPS could re-initiate the standard selection process.

According to the newsletter, "DCPS’ established process is to consult both parents and school staff on either a permanent appointment of the interim principal or an interest in forming a panel of parents, staff and community representatives to formally interview prospective candidates including the interim appointee."

Parents are asked to email comments to lsat@stoddert.org.
