Stoddert Re-Initiates Principal Search

The Glover Park school has had an interim principal for the 2012-2013 school year.

Stoddert Elementary in Glover Park will once again search for a principal to permanently replace former Principal Majorie Cuthbert, who left at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.

This summer the Stoddert community formed a selection panel to interview candidates for the position, but DC Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson abruptly ended that process and appointed an interim principal.

Principal Patricia Pride has lead the school for the 2012-2013 school year. Earlier this year the Stoddert PTA sought input on Pride and whether parents wanted to select her as the permanent principal or to re-initiate the search.

This week the school newsletter asked for three or four parents of current students to volunteer to be part of a new selection panel. The note does not mention Pride, though she would likely be considered by the panel along with other candidates. While the panel provides input, the chancellor makes the final hiring decision.

According to the newsletter, "Interested parents should submit their name and a brief statement about why they want to serve to lsat@stoddert.org by Friday, April 12th. A meeting will be held to elect the representatives and 2 alternates."

That meeting is scheduled for April 18. Interviews could begin in April or May.
