Students Secure Slots on Georgetown Community Partnership

Students will have a seat at the table next to high-level university officials and neighborhood leaders when the Georgetown Community Partnership comes into being.

The Georgetown Community Partnership (GCP) will be the primary mechanism for facilitating dicussion and solving problems that arise in the interaction between the community, the university and students.

Georgetown student newspaper blog, Vox Populi, reported Tuesday that "administrators promised student representation on the steering committee and on other committees, indicating that there will be at least a handful of students in the conversation."

Last week at the Advisory Neighborhood Commission Sept. 4 meeting, the ANC officially designated Commissioner Ron Lewis as the co-chair of the GCP.

During that same meeting, Lauralyn Lee, the associate vice president for community engagement and strategic initiatives in the Office of Community Engagement at GU, said the University has engaged in conversations with comunity leaders to form the Georgetown Community Partnership (GCP), which she expects will formally launch in October.

Vox Populi reported the folllowing statement Georgetown University Student Association President Clara Gustafson:

“Since student interests were not adequately represented in the campus plan negotiations, it is of utmost importance that students are part of the GCP, which will set the tone for neighborhood relations going forward,” Gustafson said in the press release. “I really look forward to working with neighborhood leaders on safety, transportation, housing, and other student and community concerns, and I hope to involve as many other students as possible.”
