Ruff Retirement: Hoya Mascot Jack Jr. (J.J.) Not Returning to Georgetown this Fall

Georgetown's new bulldog mascot will be mysteriously absent.

Jack Jr. (a.k.a. J.J.) just took over for Jack the bulldog at the end of the most recent basketball season, but now student newspaper The Hoya reports JJ will not be returning to campus this fall

The Hoya reports:

"Mascot-in-training Jack Jr. will not return to campus this fall, and the question of whether Georgetown will continue to have a live bulldog as its mascot remains unanswered, according to student dog-walkers from the Jack Crew."

Students are charged with the bulldogs care during the school year. A select group walks the mascot and makes sure he's ready for games and other big school events.

“I did not see this coming,” Neve Schadler, the head of the Jack Crew, told The Hoya.

J.J. came to the university with much fanfare last year. There were photo ops and even a "Bulldog Summit" with Georgetown's mascot and Butler's mascot. He had his own Twitter account and Facebook page

Now students say he's not coming back, they were not consulted and they do not know why.

The administration was more than happy to have photo ops with the bulldogs and put them in all the welcome videos and have him talk to the tours, but now that totally changes,” Hoya Blue President Joe Fiorica told The Hoya. “When it’s convenient, [Jack and J.J.] are the greatest thing that ever happened, but when it’s not convenient, they need to go.”
