Tennis League Helps Connect Local Players

TennisDC.com is a service which helps local tennis players find one another.

Georgetown residents interested in playing tennis have to go no further than their computer to find someone to play against.

Since 2005, TennisDC.com has been helping local tennis players find one another and set up matches, said League Director and CEO Steve Chagnon. The league, which services metro DC, northern VA and Montgomery County, is a way for interested parties to find one another and set up matches where and when it’s convenient for them.

DC is one of 33 cities that have this program, all of which stem from the Tennis League Network, LLC, based in Boston.

“The goal of The Tennis League Network (TLN) is to connect passionate and responsible players with each other for exercise and fun on the tennis courts through an actively managed service,” according to the TLN website.

Most of the players in the DC league are between the ages of 16 and 25, with an average age between 30 and 40, Chagnon said.

“TLN is focused on servicing the adult tennis community. In each city we have doctors, students, stay-at-home moms, retirees and a whole lot of 9 – 5ers. We represent America’s tennis playing population,” according to the TLN website.

The way the league works is that players join the site and the league then gives them a list of contact information of other players. According to TennisDC.com, each player is guaranteed at least six other people to play, but are usually given 15 or more. Players are then able to contact other people and set up matches, which can be held at any time or place agreed upon by both parties.

Regular season is all about playing as much as possible. "We give a free season if someone can play 20 times over a 8 week season,” Chagnon said.  “In DC, there’s over 500 players right now in any of the three active leagues.”

The cost to join the league is $34.95 per season. Anyone interested in joining should visit TennisDC.com for more information. The site lists courts at , , as possible places for members to play.

“If a tennis player is looking for other active tennis players then TennisDC.com is the service for them,” Chagnon said.
