America's Team in Washington to Win a Memorable Game
Prediction: Dallas 38 - Washington 27
The Dallas Cowboys, also known as "America's Team", will be playing the Redskins tonight on NBC. The whole country will be watching! Well, at least football fans and people like my wife who get sucked into this particular cultural vortex. Interestingly, according to polls, the moniker I used above no longer applies. People in every state would prefer to see RG III lead his team to victory. Fine, but the Cowboys, win or lose, will likely retain their national fan base that far surpasses that of Washington. Winning 5 Super Bowls will do that for a franchise. Vegas is favoring Washington by 3.5 points. I thought it would be higher but I'm not a gambler so its not surprising that I had the spread at 7 points. Why? The Redskins offense ranks 4th in scoring offense while the Cowboys defense has simply been decimated by injuries. Dallas couldn't stop the Saints at home last week so how can they expect to contain the Redskins at a raucous FedEx Field this week? And despite the improved play of Tony Romo and the emergence of Dez Bryant, it is unlikely the Cowboys can outscore their arch rivals with so much on the line. My brain is telling me not to expect too much. But my heart is telling me something different. The Cowboys have shown a remarkable ability to overcome obstacles and deficits this year. Romo has far more experience in big games than RG III and the latter's inexperience is bound to catch up with him sooner or later (I would never knock him out of respect, but it is bound to happen). DeMarco Murray is back from an injury that sidelined him for the Thanksging Day game. The Cowboys will win this exciting, memorable game. But watch out next year. RG III and Alfred Morris are for real and The Shanahans are proven winners. I'm anticipating a Super Bowl run by the Redskins within 3 years if the this nucleus stays healthy and their defense improves.
