Davey Johnson sticking with Espinosa

Nats manager Davey Johnson expressed confidence with struggling second basemen.

One of my favorite Nats is struggling mightily this season at the plate. Danny Espinosa, who hit over 20 homers in his first season, has just 3 this season and is barely hitting over the Mendoza line (.200).

He is striking out at an alarming rate and seems to be pressing. At today's press conference his manager acknowledged that he "senses a little frustration" and that he wanted him to sit for a few games to prevent it from "festering".

Espinoza's "makeup is off the charts. Him still sitting there lets you know what I think of Espinosa", said Johnson.

Johnson also mentioned that injured starter Chien-Ming Wang is likely to rejoin the team in 10 days and will be in the bullpen. His replacement, Ross Detwiler, has been very strong in 7 starts with a 3-2 won-loss record and a 2.75 ERA. It's a pleasant problem to have 6-7 quality starters, but the odd guys out probably struggle with it.

Earlier, rookie Tyler Moore talked about the challenge of being consistent over a 162-game schedule as compared to a 40 game college schedule. His coaches are emphasizing "not getting too up or too down" during the long professional season. Moore likes DC so far, especially eating at Potbellies. He doesn't like the traffic however.
