A long dead and stuffed (or taxidermied if you prefer) groundhog emerged at the Dupont Circle fountain this morning just after 8am. "Potomac Phil", the District's version of the famous Punxsutawny Phil, saw his shadow and, as tradition has it, decided that winter will keep chugging along for another six weeks.
Actually, that script was significantly modified by Councilman Jack Evans, who said spring was going to start early and that only the "gridlock" would continue for another six weeks.
This is the 2nd Annual National Groundhog Day celebration in the District. Meanwhile, in Gobblers Knob, Punxsutawny Phil made his appearance this morning as well.
