US Institute of Peace Fellow visits Stoddert Fifth-Graders

Stoddert Peacebuilders Engage Army Officer

Stoddert fifth-graders are doing their part to spread seeds of peace in a world fraught with tension and violence. Thanks to a new partnership with the US Institute of Peace, they are also learning about peace-related issues from accomplished and experienced people such as Col. BJ Constantine of the US Army.

Col. Constantine is spending a year as a fellow at the US Institute of Peace.  He cited his current focus on Egypt, which is the country my class is engaged with this year through the Embassy Adoption program.  The colonel mentioned that one of his goals is to contribute to the maintenance of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. The class has also heard from embassy staff members and an Egyptian teacher and filmmaker.
