Taste of Georgetown Samples a Summer Setting

Taste of Georgetown will be Saturday, June 2, moving the 19th annual event from its familiar fall setting into the sunny summer.

The Georgetown Business Improvement District changed the season for this year's event to better serve the restaurants that make it a possible, a BID spokesperson said at last month's Advisory Neighborhood Commission. Additionally he said the BID hopes a summer setting will bring in more people, since there are often competing events in the fall.

A press release about the event calls it "the only opportunity to taste one's way through Georgetown in an afternoon." Considering you can try 60 dishes from 30 Georgetown restaurants, that's a fair description.

Want a teaser of what you might taste? Think surf and turf sliders from , shrimp and pesto with fresh fettuccine from , bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce from , "Last Tango" crepe with strawberries and Nutella from and more. Hungry yet?

Guests 21 and over can enjoy craft beers, wines and sangria at the Wine & Ale Tasting Pavilion.

To enjoy the festivities, you can buy tasting tickets in advance or when you show up Saturday.

For the food, tickets are $5 for one tasting and $20 for five tastings, and can be purchased in advance through June 1 at www.TasteOfGeorgetown.com. The Wine, Ale and Spirits Tasting Pavilion tickets are $10 for 3, and $4 for one tasting. Proceeds benefit the .

Free entertainment ranges from the JohnStone Reggae Band to David Cole & Main Street Blues band and to a culinary-themed photo booth.

Wisconsin Avenue will be closed south of M Street and north of K Street to accommodate the foodie festival.
