Progress of a Hive At Church of the Pilgrims in Dupont

A hive we installed at a local church is taking off.

One of our April hive installations was at The Church of the Pilgrims off of P Street in Dupont Circle. This beautiful, gothic-style building has a garden that includes flowers, and now vegetables.  One of the choney bhurch's initiatives is a program that feeds local homeless.  The vegetable gardens will supplement the church's meal program.

And the bees with help the veggies.

This hive has been a real success story in the colony's quick growth and build-out of comb. We have been feeding it steadily with sugar syrup since we installed the bees, efforts that have clearly helped. This weekend we added a second box, called a deep, to add a story to the hive and give the colony additional room to grow. By the end of June I expect this hive to contain upwards of 40,000 bees.
