Happy Birthday: Capital Bikeshare Turns Three

Capital Bikeshare has grown to boast a fleet of over 2,000 bicycles.

Since Capital Bikeshare first launched in September of 2010 by former DC Mayor Adrian Fenty and former DDOT Director Gabe Klein, the system has expanded its reach, increasing available bikes, adding stations and connecting more jurisdictions.

In the beginning the system had 100 stations in D.C., 14 in Arlington and a total of 1100 bikes.

Today the bikesharing program has over 2,000 bicycles, more than 250 stations and serves riders in Washington, D.C., Arlington, Va. and Alexandria, Va.

In Georgetown alone there are five stations.

Do you use Capital Bikeshare? How has it changed your approach to transportation? Tell us in the comments.
