Weekend Metro Station Closures, Track Work for Sept. 20 - 22

No metro stations will be closed for weekend work.

Metro's weekend track work schedule will impact portions of all the Red and Orange lines for the weekend of Sept. 20 - 22. Work begins at 10 p.m. Friday and continues through system closing Sunday.

Delays impact the Red and Orange lines, according to a Metro News release:

Red Line

Trains will operate every 24 minutes with additional trains between Dupont Circle & Fort Totten.

Red line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove and Glenmont: Every 24 minutes throughout the weekend

  • Additional trains between Dupont Circle and Fort Totten: Every 12 minutes 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Work Performed: Between Dupont Circle and Van Ness, crews will mitigate tunnel leaks and repair catwalks. Between Forest Glen and Takoma, crews will perform track insulator, tie and fastener renewal, in addition to tunnel leak mitigation.

    Travel Tips

    • Metrobus service may provide an alternate travel option for some riders.  To check, plan your trip using Trip Planner and select the "bus only" option.

  • Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. (Trip Planner is updated to reflect weekend rebuilding schedules on Fridays; please check on Friday afternoon or later.)  You will experience the additional wait time on the platform.  Once your train departs the station, it is not expected to encounter additional delays en route.

  • Orange Line

    Trains will operate every 24 minutes between Vienna and New Carrollton  throughout the weekend.

    Work Performed: Reconstruction of the station platforms at Minnesota Ave and Deanwood stations will continue, along with tie renewal, insulator renewal and structural improvements.
