2014 Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run: Schedule, Road Closures, Results, Information

Race begins early Sunday.

Nothing says spring in our area like the Cherry Blossoms, except, maybe, the Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile Run.

With the purse bigger than ever — a total of $81,800 in prize money and bonuses will be awarded top finishers — few runners will be able to keep up with the front of the pack.

But that's OK. There are plenty of options for novice runners and even kids. Just see the schedule of events below, and visit the Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile Run website.

Here's a list of road closures Sunday.

2 a.m. - 11 a.m.

  • 15th Street between Independence and Constitution Avenues.

5 a.m - 10:30 a.m.

  • Independence Ave, SW between 14th St, and 23rd St.
  • Ohio Drive, 23rd St. to Virginia Ave (Rock Creek Parkway section)
  • Ohio Drive, riverside and channel side (East and West Potomac Parks)
  • Memorial Bridge to include Arlington Memorial Circle and Lincoln Memorial Circle
  • 23rd St., Constitution Ave to Lincoln Memorial Circle
  • 17th St. Constitution Ave to Independence Ave.
  • Raoul Wallenberg, SW (15th St.), Maine Ave to Independence Ave.
  • Daniel French Drive, SW
  • Henry Bacon Drive, NW
  • Parkway Drive, NW
  • Maine Ave, SW, 12th Street to 15th Street; All traffic will be diverted onto 395 S

And here is the schedule of events. 

  • 5:00 A.M. Metro Opens for Volunteers and Runners. The Smithsonian stop (Orange and Blue lines) is ¼ mile from the start.
  • 6:05 A.M. 10 Mile bag check opens
  • 6:35 A.M. Warm-up exercises conducted by Gold’s Gym start at the Awards stage
  • 7:00 A.M. 10 mile bag check closes
  • 7:00 A.M. Seeding corrals on roadway open
  • 7:15 A.M. 5K Staging area and bag check opens
  • 7:15 A.M. Gold’s Gym Warm-up exercises end
  • 7:15 A.M. Kids Run tent opens near Kids Run staging area.
  • 7:15 A.M. Presentation of the colors and playing of the National Anthem
  • 7:18 A.M. Advance start for elite International, U.S. championship and seeded women
  • 7:22 A.M. Charity check presentation at start line
  • 7:29 A.M. Wheelchair start
  • 7:30 A.M. 10 Mile start for elite international and U.S. championship men; first mass start wave (additional waves will depart every 3-5 minutes)
  • 7:53 A.M. Final wave of 10 mile starts8:00 A.M. Startling line sealed; no late starters allowed
  • 8:15 A.M. Start of Half Mile Kids Run on Washington Monument Grounds
  • 8:15 A.M. Food service begins; Nelly’s Echo band starts to play at awards stage
  • 8:40 A.M. 5K Run-Walk starts: Independence Ave., near Sylvan Theater
  • 9:10 A.M. 10 mile course closes at 5 miles for entrants moving slower than 14-minute-per-mile pace
  • 9:45 A.M. 5K Run-Walk course closes
  • 10:15 A.M. Random awards begin
  • 10:18 A.M. All runners must be off the 10 Mile course.
  • 10:30 A.M. Formal awards ceremony begins (no age group and team awards given out on race day due to number switching)
  • 11:00 A.M. Bag check closes (unclaimed bags will be returned to the race office)
  • 8:00 P.M. Results at www.cherryblossom.org
