Wedding Gowns for a Cause, Battle of Antietam and All the President's Pups

Friday, Sept. 13

Brides Against Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit touring the country selling donated wedding gowns with the proceeds directly going toward programs and services for people affected by cancer. The "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" will make a tour stop in WashingtonSept. 13-14 at the Dupont Circle Hotel, 1500 New Hampshire Ave. 

Music, firing demonstrations and hikes are just some of the ways to commemorate the 151st anniversary of the Battle of Antietam at Antietam National Battlefield, 5831 Dunker Church Rd., Sharpsburg, Md. The event runs Friday through Sunday and costs $4 per person or $6 per family. Call 301-432-5125 for more information.

McLean’s 1st Stage performs "The Pitmen Painters" in which a group of miners makes an unexpected mark on the art world. The show is performed at 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sundays. The theater is located at 1524 Spring Hill Rd., McLean. Tickets range from $15 to $27. Saturday, Sept. 14

Saturdays through Oct. 26 take the All the President's Pups walking tour of Mount Vernon. President George Washington loved dogs and you’ll hear all about it during a 1.25 mile walk with five stops. The tour begins at 10 a.m. and the cost is general admission - $17 for adults - plus $5 for the tour. Admission for dogs is free. mountvernon.org

The City of Alexandria is hosting the second annual Alexandria Multicultural Fest on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Four Mile Run Park and community building, 4109 Mt. Vernon Ave. Admission is free. 

Learn more about Samuel Tucker during a 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. book signing and reception for the first children’s biography about the Virginia civil rights trail blazer. Remarks will be made by Sen. Henry Marsh III, the late Tucker’s law partner. Family friendly and free! Reservations required by RSVP to 703-746-4356.

The Keegan Theatre wraps up its performance of “A Few Good Men” this weekend. The military courtroom drama shows at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Ticket price ranges from $30 to $35. The Keegan is located at 1742 Church St., NW, Washington, Call703-892-0202 for more information.

The National Football League may have just charged back into our lives, but check out the other football:  D.C. United plays the Los Angeles Galaxy at RFK Stadium, 2400 East Capitol St., SE, Washington. Starts at 5 p.m.

The O Street Band performs from 10 a.m. to noon at Alexandria’s  Four Mile Run Farmer’s and Artisan’s Market, at the west end of Four Mile Run at the intersection with Mount Vernon Avenue. Free! 4MRMarket.org
