So, if you had plans to see Goodnight Moon at Adventure Theatre MTC, plan again. The government shutdown and closure of Glen Echo Park has caused Thursday and Friday showings to be canceled.

Keep checking our calendar of events to see when the show will go on. And feel free to post your own event on our calendar, on our announcement board or in comments below.

There's plenty more to do that the government shutdown can't stop.

Free showing, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Saturday, October 19, 2013, 9:00 PM  The Hamilton Live, 600 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20005

From the Hamilton: This low-budget freak show/cult classic/cultural institution concerns the misadventures of Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) inside a strange mansion that they come across on a rainy night. After the wholesome pair profess their love through an opening song, their car breaks down in the woods, and they seek refuge in a towering castle nearby. Greeting them at the door is a ghoulish butler named Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien), who introduces them to a bacchanalian collection of partygoers dressed in outfits from some sort of interplanetary thrift shop. The host of this gathering is a transvestite clad in lingerie, Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry), a mad scientist who claims to be from another planet. With assistants Columbia (Nell Campbell) and Magenta (Patricia Quinn) looking on, Frank unveils his latest creation -- a figure wrapped in gauze and submerged in a tank full of liquid.

Saturday, October 19, 2013, noon-3. Washington Harbour - 3000 K St NW, Washington. From Coldwell Banker and Operation Paws: We would like to invite you to a very special pet adoption event at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown.  Coldwell Banker will again be partnering with Operation Paws for Homes to host the event.

You can preview just a portion of the available pets by visiting OPH’s website at www.ophrescue.org.  Even more pets will be available on the 19th… with a great variety of breeds, sizes and ages, including puppies.

Our last several events with them were all extremely successful with a total of almost 40 dogs going home to their forever homes with their new adoptive parents.  With your help we can make this event even more successful.  We so hope that you will join us on the 19th… rain or shine!

Sunday, October 20, 2013, 4:00 PM,  Washington National Cathedral.

The Cathedral Choral Society, under the direction of Music Director J. Reilly Lewis, will present Viva Verdi! at the Washington National Cathedral.  The performance is offered in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy's 'Year of Italian Culture', a 2013 initiative to strengthen links between Italy and the United States.

The Concert will feature Jennifer Check, soprano; Anna Maria Chiuri, mezzo-soprano; Rolando Sanz, tenor; and Mikhail Svetlov, bass.  Since 1942, Verdi's 'Requiem' has been the Cathedral Choral Society's signature work. Written in memory of Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi premiered his 'Requiem' in 1874.  Viva Verdi! will open with Hymn of the Nations, which includes the National Anthems of England, France and Italy.

Tickets start at $31.
