First Georgetown Baptist Church was founded by the Reverend Sandy Alexander, a former slave, in 1862. The cornerstone for the first stone church was laid in 1882, with church members digging the foundation themselves. The church sits next to Rose Park on Dumbarton Street. Worship services are held on Sunday and prayer services are on Wednesday. The church also hosts social events, such as an annual cook out in the summer.
