The Francis Scott Key Park was the brainchild of the Roffman brothers, who championed building such a park in honor of the author of Star Spangled Banner, near the sight where he once lived. The Roffman brothers ran The Georgetowner newspaper and wrote editorials and articles which got the project underway. Jonda McFarlane was instrumental in pushing the project through Congress and City Hall. When the park was finally completed and turned over to the Park Service, it was Georgetown resident John Dreyfuss who saw to it that the landscaping was completed and cared for. This park was a true Georgetown community effort.
