Construction Begins May 28 at 37th Street and Tunlaw Road NW

DDOT pushed back construction, which was most recently supposed to begin April 29.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) now plans for construction at the intersection of 37th Street and Tunlaw Road NW to begin May 28. Most recently the agency had said work would begin April 29. Hours for work will be Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is possible work could carry over to Saturdays, in which case the community will be notified 72 hours prior to such work taking place, according to DDOT. Work is expected to take approximately four weeks from the start date. The Glover Park Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) advises residents that northbound traffic on 37th Street will be detoured for a two-week period. According to the ANC, the construction will not require the detour of the D1 and D2 busses. The …

PotholePalooza Fills Almost 4,000 Potholes in One Month

This was the fifth annual District Department of Transportation potholepalooza campaign.

Potholepalooza wrapped up Wednesday, marking the District Department of Transportation's (DDOT) fifth successful annual campaign. This year DDOT's crew filled nearly 4,000 potholes in the course of one month. “I’d like to thank the hard-working men and women at DDOT for working tirelessly to fill almost 1,500 more potholes than we filled during last year’s campaign,” DDOT Director Terry Bellamy said in a press release. “I’d also like to thank the public for continuing to support this campaign by notifying us about potholes throughout the city.” The event kicked off on April 22 and in 23 working days DDOT’s Street and Bridge Maintenance Branch received 849 service requests for pothole repairs and filled 3,899 potholes, according to the DDOT…

At one point Friday morning, more than 500 Pepco customers in Glover Park were impacted by power outages.

Even though the weather forecast calls for it to be hovering around 70 degrees Monday, Memorial Day, the holiday weekend is a traditional kick-off to the pool season. Senator Percy Would be 'Oddly Humbled' by Plaza in His Name

Sen. Charles Percy (R-Ill.) was instrumental in building support and securing funding for a Georgetown Waterfront Park.

Family of the late Senator Charles Percy (R-Ill.) and supporters of the Georgetown Waterfront Park gathered Thursday afternoon to dedicate a portion of the new waterfront park as “Senator Charles H. Percy Plaza”. "My dad would be oddly humbled," said his daughter, Sharon Percy Rockefeller. As she introduced her grandchildren, who had just been doing cartwheels on a grassy area of the plaza, she added, "He would be incredibly happy and proud." The senator was a strong supporter of the creation of a waterfront park in Georgetown.
