The 26-mile race starts Monday morning.

Georgetown Political Donors Giving Much Less in '12

Contributions still many times the national average by ZIP code.

While political contributions out of Georgetown so far during the 2012 election cycle amount to only one-third of what was donated four years ago, contributions made here are still significantly more than the national average — about 132 times as much as the average ZIP code nationwide. Political contributions by ZIP code available at OpenSecrets.org show that collectively Georgetowners in the 20007 ZIP Code have given about $2.96 million so far this election cycle. University Targets 20007 ZIP Code Before Final Campus Plan Review

Georgetown University: 'We value having you as neighbors!'

Two days before the final Zoning Commission hearing, Georgetown University sent the entire 20007 ZIP code a mailer (see PDF) in which officials tout recent quality of life initiatives and GU's positive economic impact in the District. The mailer also includes a letter from Georgetown University President Jack DeGioia: "We won’t always be perfect, but we appreciate that our neighbors have joined us in a dialogue that will bring improvements and solutions for our entire community," wrote DeGioia. The letter is similar to a recent appeal to alumni to voice their support for the university and its expansion plan. This communication is as laughable as it is transparent. As a Georgetown resident for 15 years, I have been amazed at the utter lack of outreach by GU - no attempt to engage the community or invite Georgetowners to share in what GU could offer. Now that GU needs to court support, they are suddenly telling us what great things they do for their neighbors. What a joke.   more ›
