Two New Bikeshare Locations Approved

Georgetown's Advisory Neighborhood Commission approved the location of two additional stations.

Georgetown will get two new Capital Bikeshare locations in the coming months after the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) received approval for two additional locations. There are currently five stations in Georgetown. One station will be located next to the CVS on O Street NW at Wisconsin Avenue and the second will be located on what is currently an empty lot where 34th Street intersects with Water Street, NW.  Commissioner Jeff Jones said he thought the CVS station was a "great location" and that the CVS had told him it was supportive of having a station located on the sidewalk next to the store. Georgetown May Get Two New Bikeshare Stations

Latest proposed expansion of Capital Bikeshare includes two new docks in Georgetown.

Georgetown could get two more Capital Bikeshare stations in the new year, according to a proposed expansion list released by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Monday. DC currently has 138 bikeshare stations. The new Georgetown stations are proposed for 34th and Water Streets NW and the east side of Wisconsin Avenue and O Street NW. The two additional stations would bring Georgetown's total to seven. “These new locations will mean a 40 percent increase in the number of CaBi stations in DC,” said DDOT Director Terry Bellamy in a press release.  “Combined with new stations in Arlington, Alexandria and soon in Montgomery County, we’re building a robust and truly regional system.” The new stations will be installed between …

I live at 27th and Q Streets NW and am disappointed that there continues to be a hole in this area, which fits so many of DDOT's factors, including high population with a number of apartment building and proximity to other Bikeshare stations. For example, the earlier proposed spot at Rock Creek and P Street would have been a great addition.   more ›
