Planning on catching the Metro to get around this weekend? Here’s what to expect. Blue Line According to the WMATA website, "Buses will replace Blue Line trains between Stadium-Armory and Benning Road stations to allow for track maintenance, tie and fastener renewal, grout work and platform rehabilitation. Blue Line trains will operate in two segments: between Benning Road and Largo Town Center and between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory, both at regular weekend intervals. Customers traveling through the work zone should allow 30 minutes of additional travel time. Free shuttle bus service will operate between the stations throughout the weekend. Metro: Man appears to have intentionally gotten in front of train.
Update (3:46 p.m.): Normal, two-track service has been restored to the Blue and Orange lines at Foggy Bottom, according to Metro. Normal Orange Line service has been restored between Clarendon and Foggy Bottom, and normal Blue Line service has been restored between Foggy Bottom and Arlington National Cemetery. Riders should expect residual delays at New Carrollton and Largo, according to Metro. The person struck was a man in his 50s, according to the Washington Post. Metro equipment failure causes major delays for commuters Tuesday.
Major delays on the Metro’s Orange and Blue lines were due to a friction ring falling off of a moving train Tuesday morning, according to the Washington Post. The ring, similar to a brake disc on a car, disconnected from the train just outside the L’Enfant Plaza station around 9:45 a.m. while the train was moving, according to the Washington Post. Trains started single tracking around the station by 1 p.m. and no serious injuries were reported. Metro says they will inspect the brakes on all of their 5000 series cars and will investigate why the friction ring fell off the train Tuesday.
