Speak Out: Are Sky-High Gas Prices Making You Re-Think Your Commute?

As gasoline approaches $4 per gallon, some commuters may consider alternative ways to get to work.

Living in the vicinity of a major city has a lot of perks, but a bumper-to-bumper commute isn't one of them. According to data released by the U.S. Census, it takes Fairfax County residents an average 31.3 minutes to get to work. In Arlington County, it's not much better — 26.5 minutes. Montgomery County residents have some of the longest commutes in the metro region, clocking in at 33.2 minutes. If you think moving into the city might help, think again. It takes D.C. dwellers an average of 29.3 minutes to reach the office. And for many people, this commuting time adds up to gallons and gallons of gas at the pump each week. But he said road crews in Maryland, Virginia …

Capital Bikeshare: Up Close and Personal

Take a ride on Capital Bikeshare come to the ANC meeting Nov. 29 to ask for more stations in Georgetown.

At the Nov. 29 ANC-2E meeting, Georgetown residents are urged to attend to offer their recommendations for where the next Capital Bikeshare stations should be. Georgetown has stations on K St. near the Embassy of Sweden, on Wisconsin Ave. at the C&O Canal and on Wisconsin Ave. across from Hardy Middle School. In case you have not used Bikeshare yet, this video offers short tour of a recent ride I took from a business meeting at Union Station to a stop for groceries on the other side of Capitol Hill.  Before embarking on any journey, I check the station map to make sure there are bikes available at my nearest station and open slots available at the destination station. This avoids headaches later. Once I know where I want to go and that I …
