Father's Day 8K Returns to Georgetown, Features Olympic Talent

The third annual race will be Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The Georgetown Running Company's (GRC) third annual Father's Day 8k will take over the C&O Canal Sunday evening. In addition to providing a littler exercise for dad, the event will feature top running talent like Claire Hallissey, a 2012 Olympic contender, and Michael Wardian, a three-time Ultra Runner of the Year. “An evening race gives dads the morning to sleep in and the afternoon to spend with their families. Then they can bring the family to Georgetown to cheer for them while they race and cap off a relaxing Fathers Day taking everyone to Thomas Sweet for a well-deserved ice cream,” Race Director Patrick Murphy said in a press release. The GRC Racing Team produces the event as the sole fundraiser for team members. Funds raised provide…

The Sound of Father's Day in the Park

CAG Concerts in the Park Series continues at Rose Park

The Citizens Association of Georgetown tipped its hat to the community's fathers on Sunday by filling Rose Park with music, dancing, games and arguably the best grilled cheese in DC. Local sponsors marked their presence at the event, including Washington Fine Properties hosting a t-shirt drawing contest, Haagen-Dazs and Sprinkles Cupcakes donating cold and decadent treats and the Sotheby's Realty logo floating around on hundreds of eye-popping blue balloons. The relaxed yet danceable sounds of Wes Tucker and the Skillets carried throughout the park during the event's two-hour entirety while children sprinted between activities, from the Lego-making station to the egg relay. Parked along 26th St. was one of the event's main attractions: The…

Father's Day Activities In and Around Georgetown

Celebrate dad all weekend.

Looking for a way to celebrate Dad that does not require him cooking his own dinner on the grill? Georgetown has some great events and activities to celebrate Dad and give him a break from doing all his dad jobs. 1. Get Dad a new best friend. The Washington Humane Society and Coldwell Bankers are hosting a pet adoption event Saturday at the Washington Harbour. Perhaps there's a pup in his future. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the waterfront. 2. If he's a bit of a history nerd, try the Father's Day Fun With George Washington event at Tudor Place. Take part in a historical treasure hunt and enjoy the grounds of the historic property. Buy tickets in advance for this event at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18. 3. Take Dad out to the ball park…

Urban Parenting

Mr. Incredible

Giving thanks for a great urban dad

Being an urban parent is no easy feat. As much as I love living in the city, there are definitely times when the stress of “urbanity” takes a toll on the body, mind and spirit of us all. Sometimes I get tired of taking trains and buses and trying to maneuver strollers around this corner or that intersection. When those exasperating moments come upon me, I know I have a safe haven to come back too….my husband.      For weeks I’ve been thinking about what I should get him for his second Father’s Day. At first I thought I would get him a book but, let’s be serious,  what working parent has time to read a book?! Then,  I thought I would get him a gift certificate to the Grooming Lounge but my husband is definitely not the mani/pedi type…..even…
