DC buildings, like the French Embassy, are installing green roofs thanks to environmental rebates.
DC’s green roof rebate program is turning enough heads that even foreign governments are taking advantage of funding for sustainable development. The French Embassy in Georgetown is one of several local buildings to take advantage of the Anacostia Water Shed (AWS) green roof rebate plan this year. Others include Rhode Island Row, 2300-2350 Washington Pl. NE, Aquinus Hall at Catholic University and a home at 813 A St. NE. "We are thrilled the French Embassy has installed a green roof and are participating in the District's rebate program," Michael Lucy, senior consultant with AWS, said in an email to Patch. Expect traffic on Reservoir Road near the French Embassy Friday evening
François Hollande, the newly elected French President, could cause traffic snares Friday evening on Reservoir Road when he visits the French Embassy. Some 2,000 French citizens living in the D.C. area were invited to attend the event, according to the embassy website. August marks a month of vacation in much of Europe and the French Embassy in Georgetown asked Facebook followers how they were spending the month. Several of the commenters on the French site are actually spending their time in the U.S. My favorites? I like Fred Llinares's plan to go to La Vegas for a weekend followed by a week in New Mexico where he'll see the "concert de Lil'wayne" and then on to NYC.
