The weekly market opened its season May 1.
The Georgetown Farmers Market welcomed back customers after the winter hiatus with its first market Wednesday on May Day. This is the 10th year the market has operated in Rose Park. The small market includes a variety of merchants offering goods from produce to flowers to baked goods and more. Stop by every Wednesday between 3 and 7 p.m. to pick up some treats, see your neighbors and support small businesses. Parents and children who enjoy the playground at Rose Park in Georgetown's East Village are invited to participate in an upcoming design charette for the estimated $1 million renovation of the playground. Rose Park was one of 32 District playgrounds selected last year by Mayor Vincent Gray and his administration to benefit from an estimated $30 million in renovations and upgrades. Late last year D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) held public meetings to receive commuity input on proposed renovations. A public meeting Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. will cover possible improvements to the Rose Park Recreation Center playground.

Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Jesús Aguirre have called for a series of public meetings to discuss proposed improvements for the District's playgrounds. Phase II reconstruction at Rose Park wrapped up this week.
Rose Park will be buzzing with activity this evening as the Board of Friends of Rose Park celebrate a ribbon cutting and farmers gather for one of the final market Wednesdays of the season. The Friends of Rose Park will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of Phase II renovations to the plaza and play area at 5 p.m. at 26th and O Streets, NW. The upgrades, including new brick walk ways with engraved bricks, were funded entirely through private funding from the Georgetown community. Rose Park in Georgetown's East Village is getting a lot of care and attention thanks first to the privately funded renovation from Friends of Rose Park and soon public monies will support a playground upgrade that Mayor Vincent Gray recently announced. For the past three weeks Phase II of the Rose Park renovations has been underway. Bill Dean offered his P Street home for a party for the park.
Friends of Rose Park gathered Thursday night for a party at Bill Dean's home at 28th and P Street in the East Village. "It's a very special place," said Dean about Rose Park. He promised that his dogs Shredded and Splinter were never off-leash in the park. The Friends of Rose Park received approval for upgrades to the favorite East Village neighborhood park earlier this year; construction began Sept. 24. Construction to upgrade sections of Rose Park began in earnest this week. Crews have fenced off sections of the paths near the play area at 26th an O Streets, NW and are laying new bricks. Though the playground area will be off-limits during part of the construction project, the Rose Park Farmers' Market will remain open every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 31. The market relocated to the basketball court temporarily.
