Friends of Scheele's Close to $70k Goal

The funds will ensure a grocery store remains at 29th and Dumbarton Streets for another 15 years

The Friends of Scheele's Market had raised $59,850 before the festivities began Thursday night at a block party-style fundraiser in Georgetown. Neighbors young and old gathered to enjoy corn on the cob, burgers, dogs and music, and to support a neighborhood institution: Scheele's Market. Earlier this year the Friends of Scheele’s agreed to fund a $70,000 covenant for the space including a renovation of the corner grocery store at 1331 29th St. NW. As the night wore on attendees continued to take out their checkbooks to do their part to meet that obligation. The heat could not keep Georgetowners and Scheele's Market enthusiasts from enjoying an oldfashion block party Thursday night. The community group came together to raise funds to ensure a grocer stays at the corner of Dumarton and 29th streets for the next 15 years. Want to know about their fundraising success?
