Chevy Chase's lineup of luxury clothing shops has a new, sporty arrival: DJ Bennett, an appointment-only, high-end sportswear boutique. Located in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion, the store, "which opened its doors in September, specializes in luxury athletic wear and equipment ranging from snowboarding goggles with built-in GPS capabilities ($450) to neoprene surf suits ($650)," The Washington Post reported. The legendary Friendship Heights wedding dress boutique will close in October.
It's the end of an era in Friendship Heights: Chevy Chase Bridal—the only remnant of the legendary Harriet Kassman high-fashion boutique that closed in 2009 after more than 30 years of dressing Washington's socialistas—is holding its going-out-of-business sale. The liquidation sale starts on Friday, Aug. 17, and doors will close in October, Barbara Martin, a store spokesperson, told Patch. Closing sale discounts will start at 30 to 50 percent, and will get bigger as the closing date approaches. Pending plans for mixed-use development of the former Chevy Chase Buick site at 5220 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC, may have to be scrapped. Pepco has bought the site by purchasing several small parcels for $14.5 million, and has plans to build a sub-station there. This was first disclosed last week in a report by Washington Business Journal and confirmed by a spokesman for Pepco. Akridge Realty, the development company that owns the site, was not immediately available for comment. “We have purchased the property but what we are going to do with it is undecided,” said Andre Francis, a Pepco spokesman, on Monday.
